The Institute of Fine Arts was added to the University.

The Center for Advanced Study and Research in Social Sciences was set up.
1985
The old "Get together Hall" of the then East Pakistan Provincial Government later comprising a piece of the Jagannath Hall crumbled on October 15 that prompted the demise of 26 understudies of the Hall and 14 workers and visitors. The day has been recognized as the "College of Dhaka Mourning Day", watched each year in memory of the withdrew spirits.

The Delta Study Center in the Department of Geology began working.

The Department of Computer Science (presently Comber Science and Engineering) the Department of etymology and the Department of Anthropology began functioningin the Faculty of Science, Faculty of Arts and Faculty of Social Sciences individually.

Nabab Faizunnessa Chowdhurani Chhatrinibash (Hostel) was built up for the female M.Phil and Ph.
D.students of the University.

The Department of Theater and Music was built up in the Arts Faculty of the University. The exploration Center for Liberation War was made.

Workforce of Pharmacy was built up including the division of Pharmacy. The Center for Development and Policy Research was set up.
Trade Faculty was renamed as the Faculty Business Studies.
1996
Community for Bio-restorative Research was built up.
1997
The Department of World Religions and the Department of Clinical Psychology had started in the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Biological Sciences individually.
1998
Branch of Aquaculture and Fisheries (renamed as the Department of Fisheries) began in the Faculty of Biological Sciences.
The Institute of Health Economics was opened in the University of Dhaka. Likewise the Center of Excellence for Advanced Research in Physical, Chemical, Biological and Pharmaceutical Sciences was begun.
1999
The Department of Population Sciences and the Department t of Peace and Conflict Studies were opened in the Faculty of Social Sciences.
2000
The Department of Genetic Engineering and Bio-innovation and the Department of Women Studies (renamed as the Department of Women and Gender Studies) were set up in the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Faculty of Social Sciences separately. Nazmul Karim Study Center in the Department of Sociology and the Center for Cultural Development Research of Bangladesh were built up.
The Begum Fazilatunnessa Mujib Hall (the fourth ladies Hall) and the Amar Ekushey Hall were set up.
2001
The Institute of Information Technology was opened in the University of Dhaka. The Center for Development and Institutional Studies, the Dr. Sirajul Haque Islamic Research Center, the Center for Education Research and Training and a Center of Excellence for Advanced Research in Arts and Social Sciences were set up.
2002
The Department of Development Studies began working in the Faculty of Social Sciences. The Japan Study Center and Language Teaching Center were made in the University of Dhaka. The Department of Mass Communication and Journalism went under the Faculty of Social Sciences from the Faculty of Arts.
2003
The Pharmacy Department had part into the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacology, and the Department of Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology for Masters Programs, with the Honors Program under the Faculty itself. The Dhaka University Cyber Center was set up. The Department of Banking and the Department of Management Information Systems (MIS) were set up in the Business Studies Faculty. The Arts Computer Center and the Center for Governance Studies appeared in the University of Dhaka.
2004
College and Industry Alliance was set up in the Institute of Business Administration.
2005
Bangladesh-Australia Center for Environmental Research was set up in the Department of Soil, Water and Environment.
The Center for Corporate Governance and Finance Studies and the Center for Microfinance and Development began working in the college.
2007
The Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management and the Department of International Business were opened in the Faculty of Business Studies.
2008
The Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences, The Faculty of Engineering and Technology and The Faculty of Fine Arts were opened. The Department of Biomedical Physics and Technology was opened in the Faculty of Science.
The Department of Theoretical Physics was resuscitated in the Faculty of Science. A 2-Year Regional Masters Program in Journalism, Media and Communication started at the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism in organization with The Oslo University College, Norway; The University of Punjab, Pakistan and College of Journalism and Mass Communication, Nepal. 2012
Two new Departments were opened under the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences. The Department of Oceanography and the Department of Disaster Science and Management. The Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies and The Institute of Leather Engineering and Technology have been set up. It might be noted here that the Bangladesh College of Leather Technology was given over by the Government to the University for changing it into an independent establish under Dhaka University. Two focuses, to be specific The Scandinavian Study Center and The East Asia Study Center were set up.
2013
The Department of Criminology was opened in the Faculty of Social Sciences.
Three research Centers, to be specific the Center on Budget and Policy, the Center for Policy Research on Business and Development and the Center for Climate Change Study and Resource Utilization were set up.
2014
Four new Departments were opened at the University. These are: Department of Dancing under the Faculty of Arts, Department of Applied Mathematics under the Faculty of Science, Department of Communication Disorders under the Faculty of Social Sciences and Department of Pharmacy under the Faculty of Pharmacy. Six Research Centers, to be specific The Center for English Teaching and Research, The Chromosome Research Center, Center of Excellence for Teaching and Learning, Center for Culture and Resilience Studies, Center for Bioinformatics Learning Advancement and Systematics Training were set up and Air Quality Research and Monitoring Center has been set up at the Advance Research in Sciences (CARS).
